Steel services and materials management
Solution
Microsoft Fabric migration from Synapse and Power BI Premium
Platforms
Dynamics 365 F&O, AX, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI
What TMS needed to solve
TMS ran multiple Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and AX instances on a separate Synapse plus Power BI Premium analytics stack. That architecture had become fragmented, costly, and hard to scale.
Complex data landscape
Multiple D365 F&O and AX instances created fragmented pipelines and duplicate data models.
High maintenance cost
A separate Synapse and Power BI Premium architecture was expensive to operate and scale.
Performance limits
A growing reporting user base degraded refresh performance and increased latency.
Limited future-readiness
The platform lacked built-in AI, unified governance, and direct integration with evolving Microsoft services.
A phased migration to Microsoft Fabric
Veratas ran a comprehensive migration analysis across cost, scalability, and modernisation, then designed and executed a phased move to Microsoft Fabric. Fabric replaces Synapse, Data Lake, and Premium capacity with a single SaaS platform, adds Direct Lake performance, and brings governance in through Microsoft Purview.
Assessment
Inventory of all Synapse pipelines, data models, and Power BI Premium capacities.
Proof of concept
Migration of Finance and AX data into a Fabric Lakehouse to validate the approach.
Architecture blueprint
A unified Lakehouse and Warehouse model for finance and operational reporting.
Phased migration
Workloads moved from Synapse to Fabric, validating performance and cost savings at each step.
Decommission legacy
Synapse and Power BI Premium gradually sunset as Fabric became the single platform.
Business outcomes
Enterprises engage Veratas across three connected practices, delivered by the same certified team under one commercial relationship.
Lower total cost
Reduced licensing and infrastructure spend by consolidating redundant services into Fabric.
Performance gains
Direct Lake mode delivers faster reporting for thousands of users by removing import and refresh bottlenecks.
Simplified operations
A unified pipeline and reporting architecture lowered maintenance overhead.
Future-proof platform
Fabric provides built-in AI, predictive analytics, and Purview governance at enterprise scale.
Built on the Microsoft stack
Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Direct Lake, Lakehouse and Warehouse, Power BI, Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, AX, and Microsoft Purview.
